State Treasurer Roby Smith today announced the third fee reduction in as many years for ISave 529, continuing his commitment to lowering costs and helping Iowa families keep more of their investments.

Effective September 1, the plan’s only fee decreased to .15% or $1.50 per $1,000 invested. This fee reduction will further strengthen ISave 529’s position as an inexpensive option for Iowa families saving for future educational expenses.

“One of my priorities as Treasurer has been to make it more affordable for Iowa families to invest in a child’s future,” said Treasurer Smith. “This marks the third fee reduction during my administration and reflects our ongoing commitment of finding ways to reduce costs and deliver a high-quality education savings plan for Iowa.”

Since taking office, Treasurer Smith has reduced the plan’s only fee from .18% to .15%, which equates to a drop of 16.7%. In addition, the Treasurer has modernized ISave 529 by adding new investment options for account holders.

“Lower fees may seem like a small thing, but this will make a meaningful difference over the life of an account,” said Treasurer Smith. “It’s money that will stay invested for tuition, apprenticeships, trade schools and other qualified education expenses instead of going towards administrative costs. Government should always be looking for ways to deliver more value. Whether it’s modernizing programs or reducing fees, my goal has always been to put Iowa families first and make every dollar work harder for them.”
