NASA Administrator visits 132d Wing

DES MOINES, Iowa – On August 8, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman visited the 132d Wing with other federal leaders to speak to Iowa Air National Guard Members about the future of energy, national security, education, and space exploration.

Earlier in the day, Isaacman and other federal leaders spoke at Iowa State University about the future of space exploration and encouraged students pursuing careers in energy, education, engineering, and space. Following this, Isaacman and others arrived at the 132d Wing in Des Moines to speak to Iowa Air National Guard Members about future government planning and thank them for their service.

“As we work forward on this, I will say, never has America depended so mightily, not only on the individual innovation we have, but on our part-time and full-time Iowa Guard members,” said Rep. Zach Nunn.

Isaacman closed the speakers by discussing the future of space exploration for the United States. Isaacman spoke on NASA’s future plans to put a base on the moon and potential resources, and promoting American leadership in space. Regarding the National Guard, Isaacman thanked them for their contributions.

“On behalf of all of my colleagues that are joining me today from the Department of Energy, from DHS, from the Department of Education, we are very appreciative for all of your contributions to national security, all the sacrifices you make,” said Isaacman. “And I’ll tell you, know this, as you are projecting American air power overseas in conflict right now, there is a great power competition that is taking place in the ultimate highground of space above us.”

Isaacman discussed NASA's plans for future lunar exploration, including establishing a sustained presence on the moon and utilizing lunar resources such as water ice. He also discussed competition with other nations in space and the importance of maintaining American leadership in space exploration.
